Sixteen Day
This is a cover of one of my favorite songs which I sung before going to work this evening. It almost made me late for work. Incidentally, I am also fasting from listening to music this month, with the exception of my own music, which falls more under the category of my career than it does musical indulgence. As Al-Ghazzali reminded me, the eye loves to behold beauty, and likewise the ear loves to hear lovely melodies. And, of course, this being the month of Ramadhan, we all know too well that the stomach enjoys being filled. So whilst non-Muslims could be forgiven for forgetting, the truth is that this month of sacrifice applies to all our senses and indulgences, not just food, drink, sex etc... As I said though, when it comes to my own music, (or in this case, a song related to this project) then I make an exception to the no-music rule on the grounds that the creation of music is as much a career to me as it is an enjoyment.
As for the song itself, it was recorded on a rather cheap little mp3 machine, so learn to live with (and to look past) the bad sound quality, especially at the start. I owe as much to Jeff Buckley as I do to Bob Dylan for this, because Jeff Buckley was the one who first played the song for me. May he rest soulfully. I sung this song without being aware of myself or what I was doing with my fingers, my eyes were closed I think, and it was pretty much all water. Peace and love, Y.

I Shall be Released
(Bob Dylan, 1967)
They say everything can be replaced,
Yet every distance is not near.
So I remember every face,
Of every man who put me here.
I see my light come shining,
From the West unto the East,
Any day now, any day now,
I shall be released.
They say every man needs protection,
They say every man must fall.
Yet I swear I see my reflection,
Somewhere high above the wall.
I see my light come shining,
From the West unto the East,
Any day now, any day now,
I shall be released.
Standing next to me in this lonely crowd,
Is a man who swears he's not to blame.
All day long I hear him shout so loud,
Crying out that he's been framed.
I see my light come shining,
From the West unto the East,
Any day now, Any day now,
I shall be released.
