Twenty-Eight Day
Today it's a painting. I've been working on this since the first week of Ramadhan. I like it very much, even if I don't always like myself very much. It's the first serious thing I've done with oil paints, but already I have an idea that it may one day stare down into the eyes of my grandchildren, and, as I put it in my diary a week or so ago, both intimidate and inspire them. In that order. As with a lot of my paintings I have used wood as the surface. It feels natural, and wood really is magic when you look deep into it, it's like clouds. This painting is (obviously) unfinished, and the camera doesn't seem to do justice to the subtlety and boldness of the colour of the real thing (even after photoshop) however since today may well be the last day of this wonderful month, (the moon sighting is going on as I type) I thought I should put it up anyway. I had always intended to make it a part of this project, but haven't had much time to work on it. So, imperfect as it always seems to be with me, here it is nonetheless- my painting. And if you wonder, the title is a reference.. or homage to another self-portrait which I really like.
