Title: Crooklyn Dub Consortium presents: Certified Dope Vol. 1
Label: Wordsound
Released: 1996

Where do I begin? What the Wordsound posse accomplished with this record was to shake the very foundations of popular music immediately, and for many many years to come. I say that not to sound grandiose or insincere, but as a true fact. Never before had the free, hypnotic sound of Jamaican Dub been taken to the places that the Crooklyn Dub Consortium saw fit to explore. I cannot over-emphasise the crooked genius of this album... the songs all exude originality and freedom, but with an attitude that is 100% New York albeit informed by Eastern philosophies and the idea (yeah, remember it once?) that music should take you to higher places both aurally and spiritually because this truly is music to feed your soul. Avoiding cliches like they never heard a corny track in their lives, the consortium is truly on some "next ish". If you're hungry for original sounds, if you love the feeling of certified dope hitting your eardrums and unfolding like a flower before you, you need to pick up this album and have your music knowledge destroyed. I haven't even mentioned that it features 'Crooked' by spectre, which would later provide the concept for the acclaimed movie of the same name. For almost a decade, Wordsound have provided a radiant matrix for all soul rebels and lovers of original sounds to enjoy, and this is the record that put them on the map and into the hearts of thousands worldwide. Almost forgot: given the notoriously low numbers of units pressed up for early WS releases, you'd better get it while you can. Stand-out tracks? More-or-less the entire album.
